Well Sony is always is the at the top of quality and engineering over the years, and this 46HD is everything it should be for the money. I was making the move from regular TV to a HD, spent some time in various Best Buys, which have professional and smart people to inform you whats new, what bad and whats best.

I watch more TV now that I am a tad older, 50, and normally watch F1 Racing, MotoGP, Baseball, Football (Cubs/Bears) and some HBO. But my wife enjoys DVD/Blue ray running the Gambit, so we decided it time to enjoy that format on a TV that more realistic for a movie, boy, this baby is the bomb.

I got a regular Sony Blue Ray for 0 too, and put the ethernet to my router, and we have Net Flix on demand too, via our Que, and also You Tube and a Style.com (fashion shows/collections), with Hulu coming soon.

The set up was a few minutes, the HDMI cords are great as no guessing and tons of wires, and I plugged in my Video/Audio my Denon reciever/amp and have stereo too. The speakers on the TV are very good, why people complain about them I have no idea.

I chose LCD over LED as I figure its still has a few generations to go to be better, and the cost is was too much for my needs. I enjoy nice things in life, I own a Triumph Sprint ST motorcycle, and a BMW twin turbo 335i coupe six speed, and love designer clothes from Italy. This TV is a great value purchase. I also got the 4 year warranty.

So, the entire package, TV 9, BlueRay 0, 2 HDMI Cables , Warranty 0, Ethernet cord , tax 0, was 00. I wanted a TV around 0, but justified the 50% increase on the quality.

We had waited a long time to jump into the flat screen market… finally everything came together with this Sony 40″ from Amazon. I was a little nervous about the seller, but after reading a few reviews and going to their website we decided to hit the enter button. The price alone was great deal, but free shipping and fast service were a bonus. JR electronics adds more packing material and keeps in contact with you the whole time. This is why Amazon is the best, we are very happy so far. I really like the additional features of this W series TV, I have it connected to the internet via eithernet cable and the streaming content is way cool. I am trying to learn the DLNA capabilities of this TV , so far it can read my pictures from my PC , but I know it will do more.

I had originally planned to get a Panasonic plasma 50 inch. I had 3 sony’s before and all had great pictures and i didn’t want risk getting less quality. In came the46 XBR. I bought it as a floor model and saved a ton of money. I hooked it up in 10 minutes. The picture at first was great but it was very dim. I called sony the next day and they said to turn off the light sensor. POW. The picture went from great to incredible. It was bright, sharp, and 3D like. Cable is terific and Blue Ray’s are stunning. I put in I Robot and the images looked like I was on the movie set watching it get filmed. The sound is great and sounds like you are in the threatre.

I bought this TV during the Thanksgiving day sale…for a total of 73 including the Blue Ray player, delivery and setup. To this day, I have not seen a better deal on this combo. The delivery and setup was impeccable.

This is my first LCD TV and did a lot of research. Finally, it was between a Samsung and Sony. The two things that tipped in favor of the Sony was the matte finish screen and the sound quality (that I tested at my local Best Buy). We have a very bright living room and the matte finish makes a difference.

I was not too thrilled with the sound. While it was better than the Samsung, at higher volume I could hear the speakers jarring. So, finally I bought a Sony Sound Bar to get around the issue.Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar with Subwoofer – Black

Picture quality is excellent. I wondered if the 46″ was going to be too big since my previous TV was a 27″…but it suited our living room perfectly. I love it’s looks. However, I do wish it had a swivel stand. It would have made it easier when I had to reach around the back.

I did not have a wired internet connection to test the internet features. Just last week, I hooked up a wireless ethernet bridge Cisco-Linksys WET610N Wireless-N Bridge to finally start using the internet features. I am not too excited about the internet features…it works well, but there’s not enough internet content that I like.

My Sony 52W5150 is a thing of beauty! The pictures are fabulous and it looks great in the living room also. My old 60 Hz Sharp 46 inch cannot compare to this TV in terms of deep blacks and motion picture quality.

First, the pictures are amazing! The blacks are so ridiculously black… my biggest pet peeve on a HDTV is the greyish black when there’s supposed to be a black background on some older TV’s. You don’t have that problem with this TV. This TV has Bravia Engine 3 (Sony’s latest video processor) and has a 120 Hz refresh rate. Inbetween those two, the motion judder that I used to see on my old Sharp TV during fast action scenes in movies or sports are gone. All I see is smoothe motion which is a thing of beauty. Once you turn off the “Vivid” colors mode, the colors look real and true to life. I just love it. In fact, my wife told me how she noticed for the first time all the intricate details of the makeup on the TV news anchors’ faces. That’s high picture quality.

Second, it looks great in the room. I love the Sony light that comes on on the bottom center of the bezel when the TV is on. (In fairness, my wife hates it so be aware that all or most late model Sony HDTV’s have this feature) And it looks great whether it’s on or not… showing the deep blacks and the rich colors. It really does become the center of your family/living room entertainment. Some prefer the touch of color from Samsung… I prefer the all black look of my TV.

Finally, comparing the specs on this TV versus the top of the line Sony XBR9, there wasn’t enough difference to pay the extra 0 premium. Both TV’s have the same contrast ratios (3,800 native, 100,000 dynamic). For novices, the contrast ratio is a rough ratio of the brightness of the darkest color the TV is capable of versus the brightest color. So the higher the number, the more capable the TV is in terms of reproducing a wide range of colors at a wide range of brightness. They also look very similar, both use the latest Bravia 3 Engine video processor to produce their pictures, have the same # of HD ports, and allow for widgets & broadband access to Internet.

The three major differences are the following: 1) 120 Hz vs. 240 Hz refresh rate, 2) 8 bit versus 10 bit panel, and 3) of course the 0 or so in price premium. Frankly, my research into 120 Hz vs. 240 Hz refresh rates lead me to conclusion that most people can’t really notice the difference. People can notice the difference between 120 Hz and 60 Hz (as I pointed out earlier), but the 120 vs. 240 seems much more marginal. I am not such a videophile that I will pay a serious premium for a marginal difference. Then the 8 bit vs. the 10 bit panel is an even more dubious distinction. 8 bit panels allow for 17 million colors… the 10 bit panels allow a billion in theory…. But you don’t really need it. That’s because no content source available right now (not blue ray, not HD broadcast, HD cable/satellite) can differentiate colors to that degree and no LCD panel can reproduce that many colors at once. My advice is – save your money and buy the 10 bit panels when the content actually catches up. Buying 10 bit panel right now could be like buying a 50 inch plasma TV in 2000 for like K when no real HD content sources were available to take advantage of the big screen & TV capability.

The only thing this TV does not have is LED backlighting. This TV and the XBR9 are Sony’s best CCFL backlit LCD TV’s. Now the latest TV’s have started to use LED backlighting technology to really hike up the contrast ratio to 1 million to 1 and beyond. Sony’s latest release XBR10 does this as do the Samsung B6000, B7000, B8000, and B8500 series TV’s. Those TV’s are fabulous TV’s, and they look so cool with their super thin form factor (Samsung’s are 1.2 inches thick!). But I am not prepared to pay double or even triple the cost of my W series to get a similar sized LED backlit LCD TV just yet. Wait 3 years and the prices will be MUCH cheaper, since by then larger screen true LED TV’s called OLED (not the LCD with LED backlighting TV’s that are available now) will probably be more widely available.

By the way, the Samsung TV most comparable to this TV is the Samsung 52B650. Both are 120 Hz, near top of line TV’s with CCFL backlighting. I could have gone with either, but I ended up going with this TV because I got a great deal on it and because my sound system and blue ray player (PS3) are Sony products – hello Bravia Synch. Some do think the picture quality on the Samsung is slightly better… but I found the differences to be virtually indiscernable to my eyes. Can’t go wrong with either as Samsung and Sony are, IMO, the two greatest LCD TV makers right now… but Samsung seems to be pulling ahead lately.

Overall, fabulous TV… well worth the costs. One of the best top tier, large screen size TV’s available with CCFL backlighting. LED backlighting is better, but it costs over double. So for non-early adopters, this is the way to go.

Don’t have much to add other than it’s a fantastic TV for the price. I’ve had mine for a little under 6 months now, and when I first brought it home I noticed only one main problem. There was some significant lag time before the TV would recognize a HDMI source. Not a huge deal, but it was definitely annoying. I looked online and saw this was a common problem but that Sony had addressed it with a firmware update. Sure enough, I compared the firmware version it came with (can view this in the menu screen) and what Sony had on their website as the latest and it was an older one. Easy enough to upgrade the firmware yourself as long as you have a USB flash drive. Directions were self explanatory and it worked like a charm. TV has been fantastic ever since. Only other knock on it is the speakers. I don’t expect great sound from flat screens anymore, but the sound coming out of this is pretty decent. My issue is past a certain volume, I’d get some annoying frame vibration noises from heavy bass during movies. Recommend using a separate surround system for the audio with just about any TV anyway, which I do now.

Sony BRAVIA V-Series KDL55V5100 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD TV, Black User Review

This is a fantastic TV. I am thoroughly happy with it, but admit that when I first fired it up, I thought that the picture quality was terrible when compared to my other 46″ Sony LCD TV. That said, once the TV had been used for about 20 hours, it seemed to settle in nicely and I can honestly say that the picture quality met or exceeded my expectations entirely.

I am not using the speakers on the TV, so I cannot speak to audio quality.

The only complaint that I have is with the piano black finish, as it seems to be a magnet for dust. It is nearly impossible to keep the finish dust-free. Small gripe, so it still is worth 5 stars.

The TV was a gift and has been thoroughly enjoyed by the recipient. Definitely recommend the TV! VERY light, great picture, great sound!
I was not pleased, however, with the experience. I have bought off Amazon hundreds of times and always had a great experience! This time, Im afraid, was not the same. I ordered the TV 10 days before Christmas and it arrived a week after Christmas (which isnt fun when it is a present). It was impossible for me to get in touch with the shipping company. I tried calling several times and emailing with no response! They finally called my house phone to set up a time (an 8 hour window of time I had to be home on a weekday) and when they showed up it was only curb delivery- which was not stated anywhere! We had about 8 inches of snow on the ground and I was at home by myself with a one year old leaving me unable to carry the huge box inside until someone else got home. I thought I was making it easier on myself by having it delivered with “free shipping”, but looking back would just go to the store so I could guarantee arrival before Christmas and would have someone with me to bring it inside the house.
